i have been super duper sick all week long.
at least no more fevers.

tonight i am missing a fabulous house-warming party, 2 improv shows, and 80s night at the grad (already had an outfit, too). i feel well enough to leave the house but not play, and as much as i want to go, am not going to give this to anybody else.

*sigh*

otherwise, i need to get back on lj.

if you are a fan of threadless.com shirts, they are on sale for $10 now through sept 3rd, instead of the normal $15 or $17. i know some of you are so i didn't want to keep the secret for myself! i finally gave in and bought some i had been lusting after forever but couldn't bring myself to spend that much money on each one...

The Immaculate Conception as Perverted in the Pagan Harry Potter Books

(posting text of the article here. I DID NOT WRITE THIS AND THINK IT IS A LOAD OF CRAP. kthx.)

An article by Lurlene Tyranna Shores

It was with fear and a great sense of shame and guilt that I touched the cover of a Harry Potter book for the first time, and then forced myself to sit through the movies. For weeks I had prayed and asked for guidance, and I hope it was God's will that I did, and saw with my own eyes what is foisted upon the eyes and minds of our children.

I have heard many bad things about these books and movies, there would be countless instances of witchcraft, cursing, brewing of drugs made by boiling alive babies pulled from the earth, sexual congress with goats and many more things not fit for young readers' and viewers' eyes, but what I found was much worse still than I had feared.

Please do not let your children read these books or watch these movies!

I will now tell you why:Read more... )

jared on the opposing team for our first competition match is having his birthday so will have lots of people out cheering for him... the matches are won by audience response, so um...

***i will love you forever even more if you come out to the 10 pm improv match friday and cheer me on! pleeeeeeeease!***

i want people out for the semi-finals saturday, too, but it will be pointless if we don't make it to semifinals ;)

the teams are actually all really really good this year, so it should be even more amazing than improv smakdown usually is!

Your Score: Orpheus

33% Extroversion, 66% Intuition, 100% Emotiveness, 100% Perceptiveness

You are an artist, an aesthete, a sensitive, and someone who has never
really let go of that childlike innocence. To you, all of life has a
sense of wonder in it, and the story of Orpheus was written about
someone just like you.

When the Argo passed the island of the Sirens, Orpheus played
a song more beautiful than the Sirens to prevent the crew from becoming
enticed. When his wife died, he ventured into the underworld to charm
Hades but, in his naivete, he looked back becoming trapped there.

You can capture your unique world view and relate it to others
with the skill of a master storyteller. Your sensitivity and creativity
make you a treasure to the human race, but your thin-skinned nature and
innocence can cause you a lot of disenchantment and pain. What's doubly
unfortunate is that, if you try to lose those traits, you never will,
and everyone will be able to tell that you're putting up an artificial
shell to prevent yourself from being hurt.

Famous people like you: Hemingway, Shakespeare, Mr. Rogers, Melville, Nick Tosches

Stay clear of: Icarus, Hermes, Atlas

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

i can't imagine having my four year old kidnapped on holiday, i really can't. and i imagine they are incredibly distraught, who wouldn't be?

however, i can't help but notice this- "Madeleine McCann disappeared May 3 when her parents left her and her 2-year-old twin siblings alone in their hotel room while they went to a restaurant in their hotel complex in Praia da Luz, a resort town in Portugal's Algarve region."

you left a 4 year old and two 2 year olds in a hotel room alone while you went to dinner???

ok fine, you are on vacation and want to get away for a bit? well, you know? you have kids. you can find someone to come with you and watch them, you can leave them at home with a relative, you can send one parent out for food and have a picnic in your hotel room while they are sleeping. i just can't imagine EVEN IF THEY WERE NOT MY OWN KIDS leaving such young children alone in a hotel room. if it were me, the closest i'd get to leaving is to *sprint* down the hall to fill the ice bucket and run right back. 45 seconds. go out to dinner? hell no.

there is some talk about how the children were so very much wanted, that the couple went through ivf to have them. i am not doubting they love them. i am not saying they shouldn't be parents. but i personally am left in angry disbelief at the situation.

no one expects them to be kidnapped, no, but there are a million other things that can happen with kids that young if they wake up unattended in a hotel room... or anywhere for that matter. and i am not dissing portugal specifically by any stretch, but i would certainly not leave them alone in a foreign country (and i personally am not freaked out by most foreign countries).

God be with this little girl and her family and i hope they find her healthy and well, but i can't help but wonder what in the hell they were thinking.

after a couple of months having a really hard time staying on task trying to read, i am finally getting better at getting past the first 5 pages of a book again. i missed wanting to read.

book 7/50
day, by elie wiesel.

book 8/50
the five people you meet in heaven, by mitch albom.
(i don't know what i expected this book to be like, but apparently different than it was.)

each read on separate days in the books-a-million because i get too distracted to read at my own home. :P

now i need to get back to reading lolita in tehran, which has been going more slowly.

swiped lovingly from [info]myskat, [info]mushroom104, and [info]zebedeegoddess. must be a charlotte thing.

Your Score: Katharine Hepburn

You scored 11% grit, 28% wit, 61% flair, and 11% class!

You are the fabulously quirky and independent woman of character. You
go your own way, follow your own drummer, take your own lead. You stand
head and shoulders next to your partner, but you are perfectly willing
and able to stand alone. Others might be more classically beautiful or
conventionally woman-like, but you possess a more fundamental common
sense and off-kilter charm, making interesting men fall at your feet.
You can pick them up or leave them there as you see fit. You share the
screen with the likes of Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant, thinking men who
like strong women.

anything i have to relate today is tiny and frivolous in the face of the virginia tech shootings today.

the shooter is reportedly dead, one more bit of possible closure the victims' loved ones will never have. they may never know why, or who this person was that changed their lives forever.
